I am reminded of being about twelve years old, at Girl Scout Camp, and it's the final campfire. You know, the time when you cross your arms and hold hands with the friends you have made, and begin to sing "Day Is Done, Gone the Sun,....." You squeeze hands around the circle and roll out, and do your best to hold back the tears, knowing it's all over... I feel a lot like that now, knowing my friends are always going to be my friends, but this wonderful experience is over, and we are all taking our memories and moving on to new horizons.

I thank you, our reader for being with us... I am blown away by getting new followers this week! We have been honored to have so many of you reading from all over the world. We invite you to come with us as we keep working in different areas. And keep watching... there will be HoneyBee Reunions!

It has been the bee's knees sharing our honey sweet inspiration with you all. It's true, the HoneyBees are taking flight! We are a group of bee-u-tiful friends invited by Betty to share our love of paper crafting and paper trends here at Betty Bee's Buzz. Even though our friendships will endure, today marks the HoneyBee's final buzz celebrating our fun together.

I created this aperture card because it was Betty who taught me how to create an aperture on my Cricut Expression. (Aperture tutorial here.)

Here is a card I made for a sweet boy having a birthday next week

I wish you could see the glitter ( twinkling like stars) on this card. I used Copic Atyou Spica pens in various colors. The highlight of my card is Bumble Bee Larry from Digital Delights. I purchased him already colored which made it so simple to add the magic of my glitter pens. The first thing I did was to print my card with the blue sky using Print Master. I then used chalk for the ground and to highlight the clouds. The banner was cut using Make The Cut and my Cricut. I was then able to run it through the printer after using WORD to get the right shape for my wording.

I would like the give a special thanks to my HoneyBee sisters for being so loving and caring. As for their talent, I am always in awe of what they have to share. Our very own 'Queen Bee Betty' is not only talented, but a special sweet friend. Keep an eye out whenever you visit around the boards; you never know which of these lovely ladies will have an awesome project to share.

This is definitely a sad post, but a celebration of the good times and good friends I have met on this design team. I love each and everyone of you HoneyBees, and Betty thanks for all you have done to keep us afloat.

I had to laugh when I saw the picture from the HoneyBee Swarm, as that is exactly what I worked with for my final project........not sure who did the photoshop work, but I did you one better! I changed my shirt color to yellow :)

For my project I painted a frame white, stamped Honey Bees on it with Stazon ink and than colored with copic's. I took a magic marker and made the swirls........flower and leaf are cut out using Spellbinder sunflower.......the Honey Bees are cut out using the Sentimental cartridge from Cricut. They don't show well, but I also added yellow micro beads to the bees.

Girls, this is not goodbye, as I follow each of your blogs, and maybe we will be on a team together again.

Fly Away Celebration Week

Happy Monday, and welcome back to the Hive! Have you missed us? We missed you! We have enjoyed our little vacation, though.... and are ready to share our Celebration with you....

Betty Brett

Tonight I went to a farewell party for a very special young friend whom I have know since she was born. She is leaving tomorrow morning to drive all the way across the country to begin attending BYU, and start a brand new chapter in her life... Times like this come to each of us, and it is a time to reflect and celebrate new beginnings, yet cherishing the relationships that will last a long, long time....

And so it is with our beloved HoneyBees... The time has come for the HoneyBees to Fly Away from the Hive. Thus, I have chosen a familiar theme for my party centerpiece to honor them.

I cut the arch and lettering from Make The Cut, then stamped the Hive and Bees from a Close To My Heart set. The black and yellow poufs are curled ribbon that is made by wrapping satin ribbon around a skewer, misting it, and baking it at 200 degrees for 10 minutes.

The hive is a jar given to me by my daughter, and filled with layers of sugar (but sand would work, too). Add some ribbon and a cool bee charm for finishing touches. Don't you love my dishes?!! They were a gift from my friend Linda :)

My card is a blue cardstock base, with white inked clouds, Martha Stewart punched edging on a computer generated sentiment strip. I colored the twine myself, and glued it in place to spell out "Fly".

I am so very honored to have had the opportunity to be the Queen Bee to these amazing designers, and mostly my friends. Most of them have served on other design teams with me, and continue to work very hard throughout the industry. You will see their work in lots of places!!

Judy is making quilts for charity, joining several challenges regularly, and bringing smiles to our heroes all around the world with THOUSANDS of cards for Operation Write Home. She also encourages the artwork for her Mom who will be celebrating her 100th birthday in a few months!

Beth is very busy being a wife and grandma, as well as canning, baking and enjoying live bears in her yard! She is a very active member of the Whoopsi Daisy Design Team.

Kristi is enjoying the art of setting up her beautiful new home for gracious living and poolside play, when she isn't in her magnificent Studio K craft room! She is representing Longaberger Baskets, too!

Rosemary is active in the civic arena, with her family, as well as in the papercraft industry. You will find many of her projects and challenges on Have Your Way With Paper.

June has two precious twin daughters with Autism, and she is the smartest lady I know on this subject. She learns so much on the subject! She is also on My Pink Stamper and Pumpkin Spice Design Teams!

Court is another very busy crafter! She is taking care of her family in California, as well as being on My Pink Stamper, Imaginesce, Pumpkin Spice, and Artful Delight Design Teams!!!

Wanda is busy raising her second family, and homeschooling one special little fellow, as well as being one of Digital Delights' Tutorial specialists! She is also the Digi-Master of the brand new WonderWorks Crops venture!!

and last, but not least...

Betty will be staying busy, too. I will contiue to host Cricuteer in Paradise crops, and be a Tutorial Artist for Digital Delights, but am also very excited to be partnering with Wanda and Kathy from PaperPhenomenon.blogspot.com to start a brand new company called WonderWorks Crops! This is something new to the industry, and we are so thrilled to bring it to you.

So, as you can see.... our HoneyBees are all BUSY Bees, and most have flown off to build hives of their own. We will always be close, and will have a true sweet spot for one another.

Happy Friday! This is our Buzz, Brag and Bee Happy segment, and will be a glimpse into the things that are happening in the hives of the HoneyBees, Buzz in the Bizz, and today's post will have a BIG announcement!

First: Congratulations to two of our sweetest bees... June and Court are members of My Pink Stamper's new Design Team!!! Court is serving her second term, and June is a new member! We are so very happy for them...

Second: The team will be taking a short summer vacation for the next couple of weeks. Then , when we come back, we will be having a big party!!! We look forward to seeing you back here the week of August 15th .....

Happy Friday!!! Looks like it's a week of 'grandsons'!! I wanted to post this photo of Ian that my daughter-in-law posted with a cute caption, and I see HoneyBee Judy is sharing her little handsome grandson with us too!!

Here is the caption...No more naps for Ian!! He proudly informed me of his decision...I didn't argue with him....

To me, this is one of those priceless photos that just melts my heart. I wonder at what point he just decided to 'pass out' on his little Toy Story bed...lol.

Can't wait to see him and Nina again!!

Well, since the focus seems to be "grandsons" so far, I can't resist this one of Porter as he is riding on the train at the Denver Zoo with me. He was so interested in all of the mechanics of the train that he had no interest in the animals we passed whatsoever!

I have been blessed to see some of the most magnificent sights that I could ever have imagined on this trip!! This is the Red Canyon Gorge on the Green River, just up from Flaming Gorge Dam in Utah...

just breathtaking!

And,, how could I resist these HoneyBee Hive storage units also found in Utah?!!!

Tonight we had dinner with a real hero... our niece Jennifer, who is serving in the US Army. She was injured in Iraq last year, has returned to Iraq to finish that tour, and is slated to deploy to Afghanistan in a few months. We met her in Kansas, and enjoyed a lovely reunion with her.

We are continuing on with our travels, and hope to get home in another week or ten days!!!

It's so nice to post this week... it seems like it has been forever since I have shared here at the hive........Sorry HoneyBees but I think my mojo had flown south for the summer and my grandkids helped me find it today! We have been in my craft room all day creating.

I followed Judy's lead with the snowflake. Wonderful tut, Judy, and I made mine using the Stampin' Up small and large tag punch and a tutorial from the Technique Junkies newsletter.......the sweet little image is one of Linnie's at Whoopsi Daisy Designs ... love love love snow people.

Happy Wednesday!! With the weather in the upper 90s, I guess doing Christmas cards should cool one down a bit..lol..Truth is, living in Florida we can have temps in the 90s even in December. Oh yeah, it's happened and if not, it sure feels like it..lol..

I would like to thank Betty for giving me some really cute Loralie Design fabric that just happen to be Christmas designs! I added a little Stickles to make her 'Christmas Glittery'..!!

Sometimes it is said that "necessity is the mother of invention"...

Well, most of you know that I am traveling, and don't have much with me in the way of supplies,

so this shows that even with NO Christmas supplies at all, you can pull off a CAS card :)

I do have my Gypsy with me, so I have cut out a layered ornament from some aluminum foil glued to a piece of cardstock. The Cuttlebug embossing folder might not be the one I would choose if I were at home, but the idea is there. The red part of the ornament is colored with a red Copic marker, and there is some sparkly Stickles for bling, and the center is a great silver dome... I wish it showed up as pretty in the photo as it is in person. Add a strip of silver and red stamped sentiment, and a bit of red cording,,, and it carries a cheerful Holiday message.

Christmas in July - Monday Motivational

Do you hear Jingle Bells and Silent Night yet? Well, it's only five months until Christmas!! We thought it was only right that we celebrate Christmas in July since today is the 25th, and so much of the country is sweltering, and could use a dose of cool, refreshing snowflakes!!

Welcome to Betty Bee's Buzz Monday Motivational - Christmas in July!

Today I'm going to show you how to make a snowflake out of window tags. Judy Ford

I used my Tags, Bags, Boxes, and More Cartridge on my Cricut Expression.

The cut is set at 2 1/4" you'll need 8 window tags for each snowflake.

I cut a snowflake from each of my "winter" cartridges:

Winter Woodland and Joys of the Season

for the center embellishment, with crystal brads from SU.

I cut my vellum into 4 1/2 x 3 3/4 (6 from an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet).

I folded a pinch fold into the center by folding the vellum in half in both directions.

The tag windows are placed in these axis to start.

First, layer to form the base cross.

Your tags will stick out beyond the edge of the vellum - that's ok!

I used my adhesive only on the top of the tag at this point.

The next layers are at right angles to the first layers.

You can start to see the "points" and with this tag the "inner" snowflake as wellOnce you have all 8 tags in place. Flip over and glue down the points to the vellum. Then you get to cut out the points to make your snowflake.

Ta dah!!! Flakes!!!

Add your inner snowflakes and brad.

I highlighted my flake with glitter glue to make it sparkle like snow.

A Stampin' Up! tag maker (lg and small) will make the window tags as well.

There will not be the inner snowflake as the tag shoulders are different!

Add it to your card base, and add ribbon embellishment to finish.

HoneyBee Showcase ~ Punches

Today's HoneyBee Showcase will give you a couple more ideas of ways you can use punches to create great projects. We hope you are inspired!Happy Wednesday!!!

Thank you, HoneyBee Judy, for your awesome array of 'punch' cards!!! For my card, I used the Martha Stewart anywhere heart punch. I wanted to try something different and thought I would work with making a flower using hearts. Now, I must say, I knew in my head what I wanted, put never made this flower before. I envisioned attaching hearts and folding one half to give it dimension. As I started gluing the tips together, I saw it coming together and felt so proud that I designed this myself!By not attaching any sentiment on the front, this card can be used for just about any occasion.(Sorry, the Stickles were still wet when I had to take the photo.)

I made my card with layers of black and white Cardstock punched with a MS Flower punch. The large flower is made out of fabic using a Sizzix Die. I received it at a Swarm (isn't it gorgeous?)

The little butterfly is silk. I can just imagine giving this to one of my BFF's for their BD...

My punchy projects are seasonal, and quite fun to build for adding a lot of personality to your card creations. They were inspired by Dawn Griffith a couple of years ago, and are still favorites of mine.

This is Frankie-N-Stein, and he is a standard A2 size card, with 1 3/8 and 1 inch circle punch eyes, eyelids, and nose. Ink generously, and use dimensional for layering. Hand cut his hair.

His friend, Snow-E-Mann, is done the same way, only with a few additonal punches with a paper punch for the mouth, and a holly leaf punch for the decoration on his hat. Lots of glitter or Stickles dress him up nicely.

We hope you have fun with this challenge, and will give a punchy project a try.

Getting a little Punchy Around Here! - Monday Motivational

Hello there! This week's Monday Motivational is "Getting A Little Punchy Around HERE!" .These are a few of my punches on the rack my dh Don built for me!

The rest are in plastic storage boxes! Yep, I'm a punchy junky!! Judy Ford

Today I'm going to show you how to make this medallion using a round punch and some creative folding, then a bunch of punchy cards!!!

This is called a Dahlia Fold.

Two sided paper or card stock works the best.

I usually cut my paper in appropriate size strips then punch away in front of the TV.

I used 1 3/4" round punch for these medallions.

Now think about paper airplanes like when you were a kid!
Start by folding the circle in half.

The next fold is to bring the two cut edges up to the fold.

Then fold the pie shape in half.

Then open and reverse the folds for half of your airplaneOn a base of your choice make two Xs with your tape runner.

Here I used a 3 1/4 inch blue, that I did double loop punch round the corner...
TIP: punch round the corner - start with the corners!!!

(yep, I only did 3 sides you'll see why on the card)
Then apply 4 of your medallion parts so they're squared off on your base

Then take 4 more and fill in between

the first roundNow that my medallion is complete I added a 3/4" round and some bling!

My bling brad has two seperate arms.

(My Crop-o-dile wouldn't reach the center so I dug out my tried and true hole punch.

It's loud but effective!!!)

With punches you are only limited by your imagination,

or what you can scraplift from your favorite blogsites!

The MS Branch punch is very versatile!!!
Use the negative space for a paper ribbon!
Use your tape runner in a circle and make a wreath Make a solid triangle and you've got a Christmas tree!
The strips I cut into 2"x11" then there's room for an extra punch to pretty up the edge!

Do 1 line across and you have a tree branch to hold your favorite ornament!

TIP: If you are sending cards to soldiers - don't use glitter! It gets on their clothes and bodies and shows up in night vision goggles. Don't put them farther into harm's way!!!

If you use pretty pinks and purples etc.

you can make lovely coral for your under the sea cards!!!

There are the specialty punches

like this Birds on a Wire
when you need a card to drop someone a line...

Punches make good challenges for swarms too!

Here's a card I made at a Betty Bee's Buzz swarm last winter

Betty showed us how to make the punches dimensional!
Then we were challenged to use swarm colors hot pink, black, white

I added the double loop punch paper ribbon and the lacey bottoms!!!
Use your scraps of paper and make paper ribbon with your edge punches.

It can be wide for a bee-utiful ribbon...Medium for an accent ribbon...or 1" and be a delicate ribbon to go with this 1" round punch
to accent your coloring or embellishment!

You can use your punch round the corner punches for buggy boy cards...or bee-utiful girl cards...

Or go loopy for roses and put the square on point like a hanky...

and if you give a hoot...

you can use your scraps with the owl punch from Stampin Up...
I used several different colors then mixed and match
them to come up with some cute owls....
wwwwhhhhhooooooo'd a thought.... hahahahaIf you include your Sizzix and Stampin Up die cuts as punches....

Well.... that's another whole Motivational Monday... maybe to die for.... "groan"

this week's Buzz, Brag and Bee Happy!

This has been a busy week for me. I've been joining in on all sorts of swaps over at the Cricut web site. The usual ones, card fronts and cards, but also paperdoll swap and paperclip swap! For the paperclip swap I was able to use some of those leftover inchies and twinchies that were so popular several years ago. My clip for October is too cute. I made blood shot eyeballs! and December's is a magnetic clothespin with a reindeer head that I made from My Community footprint and hand prints. The foot is the head, the hands the antlers, some red glitter for the nose, some wiggly eyes and a peppermint ribbon bow from Betty's Bow Maker completes the cutest little reindeer that can hold notes on my fridge or masterpieces from my grandson Jackson... The garden is also starting to produce!!! Can anyone say Zucchini explosion!!!!! Right now I'm baking zucchini bread and muffins made with Splenda. I have some to saute with yellow squash and onions for supper! Anyone have any other good recipes you'd like to share, or come grab some for yourself!!!! Anyway, how are things in your area of the blogosphere? What are you doing special? Link back and share with all us HoneyBees!!!

I hope you will forgive a bit of family news on my part of today's post. It is what I am happy about. As you know, we are traveling, and the picture below is the main reason for our trip.

This is our granddaughter, Paisley, and she is wearing an heirloom outfit which is handed down to the girls in our family for their Blessings in our church. Sunday was this special occasion.

Part of our travels included a day at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, and this is the view from inside the magnificent chapel there. Breath taking!

This is a scenic spot in the Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs, and the background looks like a painting... but it's real! Such amazing country!

And, I have crafted a bit :) This is a "textures" project I did this week, and there is a video on YouTube, and on my blog showcasing a LOT of different texturizing techniques. I invite you to pop over and check it out.

Honeybee Showcase Heavy Metal

Our Queen Bee took time away from her vacation to do Monday's Motivational Heavy Metal!!!

Here is my card version. I used aluminum foil adhered to cardstock and put thru my Cuttlebug embossing folder.

I call this card "Parts left over???"Seems to happen alot at the Ford house when we do a "project"! Judy Ford

This is my stab at foil tape from the local hardware store...
I used my SU embossing folder - great impressions but....I must have squished it too hard...
some of the gooo from the tape oozed out and stuck to my embossing folder...
a little Goo Be Gone cleared it up..... and don't use your MS punch on this heavy sticky tape either....
oh my what a mess... thank goodness for Goo Be Gone, ruler and Cricut pick...

I made this beautiful butterfly at Stampfest. It was so easy and fun. We stamped the butterfly on cardstock with VersaMark then used the sticky embossing power. After we used the heat gun we sprinkled it with glitter. Next you glue it onto a soda can. ( I picked Pepsi of course. ) you cut out the butterfly and shape the wings to however you would like. The last step is to glue a pin onto the back with Super Glue. I love these and you can do them is so many colors.

Monday Motivational ~ Heavy Metal!

Welcome to our Monday Motivational tutorial. Sorry it is posting a bit late. I am out of town, and posting from a remote location. I am excited to bring you a fun project that is easy, versatile, and useful. I want to thank Monica Weaver from Add A Little Dazzle for her inspiration.

My project is metal covered hand sanitizers! These are embossed and specially colored. Imagine what themes you could fix these for!! Watch for the one in the last photo :) Bwahahahah!!

Start with small hand sanitizers. I got mine from the dollar store, three in a box. The metal tape I used is called Aluminum or Flashing Tape (and it's the same I used for my red, white and blue insulated cup video a couple of weeks ago). It comes from your local home improvement store in a nice BIG roll for about $8.00.

Now, here's the part I learned the REALLY hard way! The only coloring medium that works on this project is a paint! Wanna know how I know??? I've tried everything else :) How does a Copics instructor FORGET that hand sanitizer is a solvent for Copics? They color this tape beautifully, BUT when you use hand sanitizer, it takes the color off, and onto your hands! (Same with any alcohol based marker!) The same would happen with any water based ink... therefore, after lots of experimentation, I have discovered that Elmer's paint markers work very well for this project! They come in lots of plain and pearlized colors.

After coloring the tape, place it in your favorite embossing folder, and run through the embossing machine.

Then use a sanding block to remove the color from the raised image! The silver really pops!! This is fast and easy.

I remove the labels from the bottles, then peel the backing from the tape, revealing the very sticky adhesive.

Carefully wrap around the bottle, and you have a great project! This one would make a great gift for a guy,or "potion" at Halloween!! I hope you will be making something from metal tape, a soda can, metal sheets, or some other "Heavy Metal" with us this week! Happy creating ~

For my card I started with my House Mouse Stamp that I colored with my

Copic markers!!!

I took a great class on copic markers from Betty Brett!!! She showed me how to do shading and perspective and look around me at all the colors and how light plays off different items!! She rocks!

I used my SU Keynote Die and then my Cuttlebug Divine Swirls Embossing Folder.

I think it looks like the wind is really swirling by the flag.

Then I used a MS Edge Punch on 4 different patriotic papers for the background!!

This card uses lots of layers, but it goes together quickly and with a lot of pride!!!

Inside is the following computer generated phrase
"The American flag does not fly because the wind moves past it. The American flag flies from the last breath of each military memberwho has died protecting it.American soldiers don't fight because they hate what is in front of them. They fight because they love what's behind them!"

I have done this type of album as portable brag books before, and they are such a delightful surprise when opened, as they give a lot of surface for photos and journaling.

Here is one side, decorated with a few stamps and embellishments.

And this is a close-up of one section of the other side. These fun albums can be made as long as you want, allowing for small event presentations, or scrapping a whole summer's worth of fun!

They are very easy to make, and lots of fun to decorate. Kids love being involved, too! Won't you make one this week, and share your holiday celebration with us?

Thank you, June, for a simple and cute challenge for this week!!..Unfortunately, today was not such a good day, and after my doctor appointment around noon, I spent most of the rest of the day in bed. So, it's my fault that I put off until the last minute to do my album. I did get it done except for the inside embellishments. Nina will be visiting me in a couple of days and this will be a fun project to finish up with her help.

Monday Motivational - Patriotic Mini Accordian Album

Happy Monday, and welcome to our Monday Motivational! We hope you had a great weekend, and are ready to head into the craft room for some fun projects! Did you miss us on Friday? Well .... most of us were together on a crop, and "somebody" got so busy hosting, that she forgot all about getting the post done! She hopes you will forgive me (er....) her! Let's get on to June's Mini Album for this week! It's a great old style revisited!

July 4th is right around the corner. Why not document your family barbeque or fireworks fun with a quick and easy mini book?

This is what it looks like when opened:

Now it is ready to just add pictures!

Instructions:

1. Covers:

Cut 2 @ 4 1/2" squares of chipboard; cover in 5 1/2" squares of decorative paper.

2. Inner pages:

Cut 3 @ 8 1/2" squares of card stock for inside pages. Score horizontally, diagonally, and across one diagonal (from bottom left to top right). Adhere the top left square to the bottom right square of the previous 8 1/2" square. Repeat.

3. Assemble book:

Adhere 30" ribbon to the inside of the back cover. Glue down the bottom right square of your inner pages. Now glue down the top left square to the inside of your front cover.

4. Decorate!

Cut 3 3/4" squares of decorative paper, then glue down as photo mats. Cut some along the diagonal and adhere on triangular spaces. I like to leave some triangular areas blank for journaling.

I hope you will give this a try. The HoneyBees will be posting their versions on Wednesday, so be sure to check back for more inspiration :)

Hello Everyone!!

Once again, when I read what our challenge was this week, I knew what I wanted to do. I totally slipped with getting my layouts done of Joey and Elizabeth's wedding and this was a perfect time for me to finally get the cake layout done. As some of you may remember, they had their wedding on October 31 and though it was formal, there was some fun Halloween thrown in.

The flourish on my layout was cut using Accent Essentials.

I love their cake, but more so, the cake topper!!

Okay girls, I got a little lazy this week. (Besides that, I was having a touch of creators block......so this is the best that I could come up with As you all know, I have been into the berries lately, making delicious jams and cobbler, so what did I chose to work with, but an image from Stampin'-Up! called "Fruit Stand". The sentiment is also from Stampin'-Up! and that is the Yummy set.

If my image looks a little rough, it is suppose to, as I did the Cracked Glass technique and distressed my label. I hope you will share a recipe or something with us this week pertaining to food.

Monday Motivational ~ Food Glorious Food!

Welcome to the hive for our Monday Motivational! I must admit that I rarely feel like there are coincidences... Just wonderful things that are meant to be! Well, it has been many weeks since we decided that our theme for this week would be "Food, Glorious Food"... it's been a song from long ago that sticks in my head, ever since my kids and I did a church "Road Show" with this theme, and you know how music has such an impact on your life... especially happy times! Now the fun part for today... I was doing some research, and find that our friends at Splitcoast Stampers had a great Virtual Scrapbook Night this weekend all about food, too! Plus, I just signed up for a recipe swap over at Paper Phenomenon, which is happening next week! Food is everywhere! It IS glorious!

This weekend I made the most yummy cupcakes, and I wanted to share the recipe, plus a little tutorial with you. These are CUPCAKES WITH A KISS! My daughter, Tori is the undisputed Cupcake Queen, and she shared this quick and easy addition that made a mouth-watering delight! Let's cook up some fun!

First, you will need a regular cake mix, of your choice of flavors, and the ingredients to prepare it according to the normal directions. You will also need one Hershey's Kiss for each cupcake. I happened to have a wonderful assortment of flavors on hand, and that made for a delightful smorgasbord of choices! Unwrap the Kisses, and place the little paper "flag" inside the cupcake liner so it sticks out the top. Fill 2/3 with batter, then gently press in one Kiss, and bake as usual. No need to add additional time. The Kiss will sink in and give a super surprise center! Let cool and frost.

For my recipe card above, you will see that I did the recipe on my computer, and used Crafty Secrets adorable recipe birds stamps. They were stamped with Memento Ink, Tuxedo Black for the two at the top, and London Fog for the one over the lettering, creating the illusion of it being in the background, and not obscuring the typing. All images were colored with Copic markers.

Create a cupcake topper with two punches, sandwiching a toothpick in the middle, using foam dimensionals. Can you see the Kisses flag here? This is a plain Kiss... the Dark Chocolate say "Dark", the Almond say "Almond", etc. There are LOTS of different flavors... I had 7 different kinds today!

Here is my cupcake dessert stand for Father's Day, featuring the Necktie downloads from Shindig Parties To Go that we Buzzed about last Friday! Didn't they turn out SO CUTE?!

Wednesday the HoneyBees will be ready to share all sorts of Food, Glorious Food with you, and we hope you will be thinking of what you will want to create to share, too!

In keeping with this week's theme, pinwheels, I thought I'd share with you a layout I did back in the early days of my scrapping. I started doing layouts when I found out I was to be a grandma..for the very first time!!!. This was done almost 8 years ago after returning from a cruise and Nina was 2 months old! Yes, there was a time when I was quick at getting layouts done..lol You will notice, this was before the pretty papers, die cut machines, stamps, embellishments, etc..I was just learning that there was a section call scrapbooking in JoAnns and Michael's..lol...

Well, I have a couple of things to share this week. First off, I did this layout of my granddaughter and her dad dancing and call it "daddy's hands".

Next, I live in rural Virginia, so have been canning jams the last few weeks, and I have 4 blackberry vines that keep giving and giving and giving.......this is my second batch of jam.

Doesn't that look just yummy?! I also made some cobbler on Sun. that didn't stand a chance with my crew. They loved it!

Pinwheels are so cool! I followed the tutorial that HoneyBee Courtney posted on Monday. I cut a 3" square, then attached it with a mini brad. My papers are Echo Park "a walk in the PARK" and my sentiment is a Punnylicious sentiment by My Pink Stamper.

Pinwheels are hot right now...right up there with chevron patterns, seam binding, and baker's twine. I hope you will give this a try. They make a fun summer card!

I love pinwheels and so do my grandkids.........so for mine I used a sketch from Techno Stamper. She has a Monday Lunchtime Sketch every week. I haven't played for awhile, but this sketch seemed perfect for a PinWheel.......all papers are CTMH, MS punch, and bling from Wal-Mart.

When I found out our theme was going to be 'pinwheel', I knew exactly what I wanted to do!..I am so far behind on my layouts and thought a pinwheel design would give the layout an interesting block look to it. Of course, once I did Nina, I thought why not do Ian too! Using 12x12 doublesided cardstock worked out perfectly!

For pinwheels I went back to my quilting roots and dug into my old patterns. I used a bee stamp from Nature Walk set from Stampin UP. and randomly stamped two different background colors. Then I took my 1 1/4" square punch and punched out 8 squares of each color. These squares I cut point to point and reassembled on a background square for my paper pinwheel quilt. I added some freehand "bee fly trails" and some stick pins made with shrinky dink material and a Betty Bee Bow Maker BEEutiful Bow and tada "Just BEE Cuz" card is done!!!

I have made quite a few pinwheels for summer decorations, and what is more fun than having festive decorations for the Fourth of July?! How about a Headband?!

Theses are 2 and 2 1/2 inch pinwheels. The red and blue ones are Core'dinations paper that have been embossed with a Sizzix stars folder, then sanded to allow the inner core color to shine through. The center one is edged in Gold Lame' Smooch ink. The medallion is from K and Co.'s Americana collection. Add star brads, and you have an easy wearable decoration so you can show your colors the holiday

1. I cut three 2" squares from the shadow function on the Cake Basics Cartridge (most of you probably have Plantin Schoolbook for this, but it didn't come with my Expression). You can also just hand cut 2x2 squares.

2. Score down the diagonals of the squares in both directions - making triangular quadrants (is that an oxymoron? I'm such a geek, I know.)

It should look like this:

3. Cut on the score lines only half way down. This is very important for the pinwheel to hold its shape. If you cut all the way down, you won't have room for the brad to hold it... Ask me how I know... ;)

It should look like this now:

4. Curl edge inward. I chose the ride edge of each section. Either will work I suppose! :)

It should now look like this:

5. Using Glue Arts Extreme Adhesive Squares, place one in the center of the pinwheel and curl the edges PAST the middle and adhere to the square. This will get you a much neater looking pinwheel than meeting in the center (believe it or not!).

6. Punch a small hole in the middle of the pinwheel using your Crop-a-dile or other apparatus.

It should now look like this:

7. Put a brad in the center and enjoy! :)

Thanks, Court! Just a little addendum to her awesome tutorial! If you want to make a spinning pinwheel, here are the extra steps:

Use a corsage pin, or something similar to go through your pinwheel. Slide a bead onto the pin to provide a spacer.

Using wire cutters, carefully clip off the extra length of the pin.

I used my hold piercer to start the hole in my dowel, then added a little bit of glue to the hole, and pushed hard to seat the pin into the wooden dowel. Note the spacing which allows the pinwheel to turn.

First, it's sweet HoneyBee HAPPY BIRTHDAY wishes to HoneyBee Court!

Here is the card I made for her, (though it probably hasn't made it all the way across the country yet)...
It is made with DCWV's new Lemon Flower stack, and Court's favorite color is olive green!
She shares her birthday with grandson Porter, and he is having a high flying birthday today, so here is his card celebrating his third birthday!

And, I wanted to give credit to one of our bloggie buddies out there who has a wonderful demo on how to stitch on cards, similar to my wording.... but for the life of me, I can't find it! She stitched the word "Happy" in green, and showed how to choose the best font from your computer as a template. Somebody help me out here, and help me find the tutorial again! Thanks!!

HoneyBee Showcase - Chevron patterns - June 8th

Happy Wednesday, and welcome to the hive! Today's challenge is inspired by PaperCraft Magazine's layout on Chevrons... and Judy gave us a good kick start on Monday with her Motivational... so here are some more goodies from the HoneyBees to sweeten your day!

I love this tone-on-tone orange chevron paper from Echo Park's "a walk in the PARK" collection. (Cut sizes and all materials listed here.)

My card was created with My Mind's Eye "Quite Contrary" papers. These papers are double-sided, have a light texture, and are a nice weight. I loved working with these papers! They emboss beautifully too. I used a chevron pattern for her umbrella, and polka dot patterns for her rain coat, the sentiment, and other backgrounds. I also used my Cuttlebug Swiss Dots embossing folder by Provo Craft on the large polka dot pattern paper.

Other supplies:
My Favorite Things Pure Innocence "My Umbrella" stamp set
copic markers: YG95, E00, E21, E29, C3, G28
Spellbinders Nestibilities circles & squares dies
SU word window punch, label punch, and dimensionals
paper piercer
Bazzill card stock
Brief tutorial: I cut a 12x12 sheet of dark green Bazzill card stock into 4"x12" (I made 3 cards like this one). Score at 4", 6", and 8". Create a mountain fold in the center. On one side of the mountain (2"x4" rectangle), place some strong double-sided tape. I like to use photo tape or red-line tape. Adhere down. Now decorate as desired!

You can alter the dimensions. If you have 8 1/2" x 11" card stock, try cutting it in half (4 1/4" x 11"). Then score at 4 1/4" and 6 3/8".

Now give it a try!

Do you have chevron patterns in your stash? I had more than I realized. But you can also create your own with a sewing machine (zig zag stitches). Another idea is to use a decorative corner punch: arrange punch outs in a mountain/valley pattern across your paper. I am enamored with chevrons now :)

You would think with the hundreds of papers and cardstock I have, I would find a chevron design! Nothing even close, except I did find in my ColorBok Punch-Out Pack a ric-rac border that I thought would make a good substitute. This is a Father's Day card for my son, Jeff. I am so proud of him for being such a great dad to Nina and Ian.

My chevron was handmade with this striped paper set from the Happy Day (2008) paper pack by Imaginisce. I cut the 12 inch strip of paper, and then laid it on my paper trimmer at the angle I wanted, and cut the ends, making sure to flip the paper over so I got alternating points. Touch the edges together and tape on the back. VOILA'... a chevron!

Add a couple more embellies from Imaginisce, and it's ready to bring a smile to someone's face!

I get to do this week's Monday Motivational at Betty Bee's Buzz.

I'm going to show you a card made with Chevrons for Father's Day!

Any man can be a father but it takes someone special to be a DAD!!

By definition a Chevron is an inverted V shaped pattern.

They have occurred as far back as early art including designs on pottery and rock carvings.

Well, I searched by paper stock and could not find one zig zig V shaped design!

I was shocked, but not near as shocked as my dear husband!!!

So I thought....what would Queen Betty do???

Think outside the box - square - angle.... tada

Squares cut on point would make a V..... arrow heads are a V....so, I used my paper cutter and cut this black and white square patterned paper on an angle across the squares.... It needs to be an even pattern to see the chevrons easiest..I got some silver metallic cardstock from my stash for the background. I used a Thrinchie I made for a swap on the Cricut board, and wha la.... a chevron card is born...I made this second card for my son-in-law Joseph. He's married to my oldest daughter Jennifer and is dad to my two grandsons, Brock and Jackson.

I tease him unmercifly about all his hats ~ he owns about a buzzillion ( well maybe 1/2 that).

But, he is a great Dad and wears lots of hats in his family...

dad, husband, bread winner, bowler, race enthusiast just to name a few...

I thought this little dude from Paper Dolls was so cute, so I made lots of hats for him...

Inside the card reads.... I'm the DAD....which way did they go???

So now that you've seen mine... you need to show me yours!!!

Check out your paper stock... remember you can think outside the box too....

I belong to the Cricut Card Fairies thru the Cricut site. We are given missions to send cards to people who need cheering up or celebrating a milestone etc. This Mission 768 really touched my heart. The deadline is July 20th. Kristen is looking for 200+ thank you cards for our World War II veterans who are participants in the "Honor Flight". The cards she collects will be given to Veterans for an August 27th flight from Northeast, Wisconsin. The mission of the Honor Flight is to offer World War II veterans a memorable, safe and rewarding tour of honor to our Nations Capital. (average ages 80-90). They visit several sites around Washington, DC dedicated to their honor including the World War II Memorial, etc. Its Never too Late to Say Thank You. One of the highlights of a Stars and Stripes Honor Flight is the surprise Mail Call. On each flight, every WWII verteran gets a packet of mail. Please create a thank you card(s) TO a Veteran! Just address the envelope "Dear Veteran" and thank them for their service and sacrifies. (You will be signing your cards!) Cards can be patriotic or whatever you want.
Put your cards into a larger envelope and mail them to Kristen.

Wow!! I can't believe it's the 3rd of June already!!..Yesterday was my husband's birthday which brings him one year closer to retirement! Though he loves his job, I know he will enjoy not having to get up and head out to work 5 days a week..

Last week was vacation week and we spent a fun time at our vacation club villa. Visiting us for the week were two very dear friends of ours from New Jersey. Today I would like to share with you a couple vacation photos.

While the guys went fishing, the 'girls' had a pedicure, lunch and refreshing time at the pool

One of the most amazing things at the Magic Kingdom is the Electric Light Parade. Just gorgeous!

If you get a chance to visit Disney's Hollywood Studios, you must go on the Toy Story Ride. It is now my favorite ride at Disney World!! I was so tempted to ask the cast member to let me stay on the ride, but I saw all the excited faces waiting to get on...so....I got off..lol

Here is Mr. Potato Head, the greeter, who entertains you as you make your way through the line.

Honey Bee Showcase - Corrugated Cardboard

Happy Wednesday, and here it is June 1st already!! The year is half over, and school is ending... it's the beginning of hurricane season here in Florida, and summer vacations are beginning... What is happening in your part of the garden?

Based on June's great Motivations on Monday the HoneyBees have created some awesome projects with Corrugated Cardboard, or Crimped Papers this week.... Let's have a look!

In keeping with the tender feelings of honoring our military heroes this week, I have chosen a red, white and blue theme. The upper star field is made from a Diet Coke can, tinted with Copics, then embossed with the Cuttlebug. My star was cut by hand, and embellished with an awesome button and gold metallic crochet cotton. My sentiments are heat embossed, and I've finished up with three sparkly gems.

My friend June provided you with a host of inspiration on Monday and I knew when I saw her cards exactly what I want to do!

I think this is my first "legal" sized card - 9"x4"

I am a *proud* member of the Cricut Circle and we had a challenge to case a card in the private magazine that is provided for us! I have never cased a card to this extent and thought it was just charming so I chose this one.

I took a screen shot of this card to share with you so you could see how closely I cased it. In the magazine, we get cut sizes, recipes, and instructions so it was easy to follow closely.

I've never worked with corrugated cardboard before now. I took Queen Betty's suggestion and ripped the top off a box... great therapy!!! Then I took June's suggestion that it can be cut with Szzix die cuts easier than with the Cricut Expression.

I have 2 Sizzix die cuts and 1 SU die cut in my arsenal. Here are the cards I made.

This was such a great challenge for me because I dusted off my Fiskars crimper; a tool I haven't used in a long time!! Using my Mother's Day Bouquet cartridge, I cut scallop circles and then ran them through the crimper. For the pot (bowl), I used a Sizzix die, crimped and then used my brown Copic, brown chalk and brown ink for added dimension. Sizzix die for the leaves, Stickles, Prima flowers, Cuttlebug embossing folder for the card and Imaginisce I-top for the center in this popped flower.

I used a piece of Cardboard box for my corrugated paper. I'm in the process of moving my craft room.. (uggg what a mess). So I couldn't find my handy dandy crimper... But not to despair - look how cool it turned out. I used paper from my monthly craft kit. The digi is one I've had for a while and I apologize, as I'm not sure who's it is..

Monday Motivational - Corregated cardboard

Happy Monday! When you paper craft, trends come and go. If you wait long enough, they come back around again. When it comes to paper crafing supplies, I am a hoarder. I have lots of corregated card board in my personal stash...and in a variety of colors! I die cut the red and white flowers from corregated card stock using a Tim Holtz Alterations/Sizzix die. (Complete supply list for this card on my blog.)

This star was cut with my Cricut...a little ragged, but I like the rustic look for this card.

I hope you find some motivating ideas here to use corregated cardboard on your next card, LO, or project! It cuts shapes really well with Sizzix or Ellison dies. If you want a rugged cut, use your Cricut. I hope you will give this a try.

Honey Bee Judy Ford here. I am just 3 weeks post op but doing very, very well. All 4 drains are out and incision is healing well without any signs of infection. Continued thanks for everyone's support and prayers for my recovery. Especially thank you to my dear husband, Don. Without his help this last 3 weeks would have been darn near impossible. I am a very lucky honeybee!!!

Hope everyone's summer is starting to take shape and weather is starting to get better. Lots of rain here in Michigan but my thoughts and prayers go to all those in those awful tornadoes path. What devastation Mother Nature can produce!!! God Bless you all!

When I think of summer I remember lots of fun times with our family reunions at Great Falls Park in Virginia! There was a lot of great food, the old merry-go-round with the brass ring, and the Potomac River with the amazing view of the rapids.

I also think of the LAST DAY of SCHOOL which is quickly approaching!! My daughter has the sweetest tradition of meeting all of the kids with lots of special treats and a big end of school party. She is the "Cupcake Queen" and I know she will love to make these themed cupcake wrappers... but it's really fun to carry your theme to water bottles, treat cups, and other cool projects. Happy Wednesday! Here in the hive we are thinking of summer. In my mind, summer is about chintz or polka dot patterns, blueberries, and watermelon. I tried to capture those ideas in my card.

I found this Hero Arts stamp at my LSS in the 50% off bin. I immediately thought to stamp on kraft card stock and color with my prismacolor pencils. When I was creating this card, I was on Skype with HoneyBee Court Lee. It was Court's inspiration that inspired me to add the scallop border (MFT Die-namics) and the crinkled ribbon at the bottom. I *heart* red and polka dots, so this fun paper by October Afternoon caught my eye. I added some bling hot rocks with m i-Rock tool...done :)

For my project this week I chose a card with summer colors and what says summer like flowers.

When my life slows down a little I may be on time again the next 2 weeks will be a little hectic and I can during the summer so busy busy busy.

Okay back to my card this weeks project uses a technique from Technique Junkies called Embossed Triple Cuts from the Emboss or Die CD my Digi image is one of Fred's from Fred She Said I did a little paper piecing on it and colored with Copic's embossing folder Cuttlebugs Kassie's Brocade all card stock Bazzill and used a couple different Nestabilities.

Monday Motivational Summertime Bag Album

Every Monday at Betty Bee's Buzz one of the Honeybees shares a special project with you on the Monday Motivational.

This week my project is dedicated to Summer time, and my youngest grandson, Jackson. When I asked him what he had planned for summer vacation he rattled off a whole list of things: Enjoying the sunshine, playing at the lake and riding the innertube behind Grandpa's boat, having adventures at the zoo, making s'mores with Grandpa, lots of ideas. SSSSOOOOOO, I made him a lunchbag album to hold some of the pictures and treasures. I started with 3 white lunch bags. Then I sewed down the bottoms to make pockets, alternated the openings of the bags and sewed down the center to make the album.
I used the Life's a Beach Cricut Cartridge. Several of the title words worked well into Jackson's wish list.

The papers I used were from All About Boys and an old Summer stack.

I used Paper Dolls for Jackson's s'more page. The pockets have removeable inserts from cardstock -here they worked out to be 3 1/2 x 4 1/2- slip a ruler inside your pocket and measure what will fit width and length - we can put a picture or journaling or something on the pages.

Jackson loves fishing in Grandpa's boat. So I put two inserts with fish - 1 coming - 1 going for his pictures of his catches. He's all boy and will be outside as much as possible - if Michigan ever gets a heat wave - we'll have a place for some great pictures.

This is the album open. The pages are about 5x5.

All porpoise pages for journaling or pictures - I cut out two of each pullout - sandwiched them together to make a tab. I used black so it was easy, if you use patterned paper make sure to use your flip button to get the pretty paper on the outside on both sides of the tab. You can put as many inserts into the openings as you need. There is a SU tab punch that could be used and then write on the tab what's on the insert paper.

This came together quickly and could be made thicker with more bags. It could be set for any theme. I was thinking Jackson could take this one with him to his first day of kindergarten in the fall.

Well, I had so much fun creating the new design for the fishy card for Wednesday, that I decided to show you another one!

This one is very springy, and the flowers were all punched... quick and easy! The movement of the flowers is so delightful!! When you open the card they just dance :) It surely brings a smile to your face! The tutorial on how to make these cards is on my personal blog.

Happy Friday! I have thoroughly enjoyed Amy's challenge for us this week: something old, new, borrowed & blue! I made this card for our Goddaughter, Shelby, who is graduating high school. My grandma gave me her sewing machine (old), I have never machine stitched my scrapbook paper on a card before (new), and I borrowed the criss-cross card tutorial from split coast stampers.

This week I've got a few things to brag about! I made a set of dagger jewelry for my mom. The main beads are called daggers but the bracelet is so fluidy you just HAVE to pet it.... it wiggles and squirms under your fingers like a contented caterpillar. I did this set in Pink (mom's favorite color) and irridescent white cubes and seed beads. I took classes while I was in Florida from Debbie Blamy at Beading Elements in Sarasota. I changed the earring pattern just a little.

The other things I'm bragging about is my post op progress. I now have 3 drains out - 1 to go, probably next Wednesday's appt - no infection, pain much less, and activity stamina getting a little better each day. At the last appt my weight was 164 - down from 344 - that's 180POUNDS!!!! I haven't been this size since high school.... My continued thanks to all my friends and family for their prayers and support and mostly for my dear husband, Don, who's been the resident nurse for me. It's really different on this side of the siderail!!!!

The last brag is my birthday is Saturday the 21st.

I'll be 30-29.... doesn't that sound better than 59????

so what's going on in your hive???? Hopefully our honeybees are healing and Bob the Babe is improving too!!!!

Happy Friday!!!

What a crazy week. Well, I think it was more me than the week...lol..Exciting is driving my new mini van and having my inside lift put in for my scooter. The lift was done last Friday and on Saturday I had a problem. My scooter was 'hanging' outside the back of my van and the remote would not allow the lift to go up or down. I manually released the bar but didn't move out of the way fast enough. So, all week I've been walking around with bruises starting on my right shoulder down to the top of my right hand. Luckily, I'm use to have nasty looking bruises..lol..So Monday the remote was fixed and so far so good. Well, that is it worked at the shop; I haven't done it yet on my own.

Next week is going to be a fun week for my husband and me. Friends of ours from Jersey is coming down for a week, Joe is off from week and it's fun vacation time!!

Here is a card I made with something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue. Yeah, like I said I was a little crazy this week and messed up on the instructions. Betty, forgive me for being an air head.

The old is the heart stamp. I don't even remember how long I had that stamp and maybe used it twice! The new is this beautiful matstack from DCWVcalled Mariposa.. You see the blue..sorry, you don't see the 'borrowed'...lol..Ok, I feel better confessing my mistake..lol...

Have you ever seen an elephant with blinged-up toenails? That is my new item: Imaginisce hot rocks. I borrowed my sketch from Artful Delight. My old items are the papers and rub-ons: BasicGrey "Marrakech" 6x6 papers. I cut the elephant from the Cricut cartridge "Wall Decor and More." I drew on her eyelashes and embossed the lacy circle and scalloped circle with my "D'Vine Swirls" embossing folder by Provo Craft. Here is the sketch at Artful Delight:

I was inspired to make an elephant card by HoneyBee Court. She and I both like elephants!

Something new is the design! It was inspired from a commercially purchased card my Mom received a while back, and I figured out how to make a similar card for us! It literally dances when you open it :)
My something borrowed is knowledge... I LOVE the information of where to find Cricut cuts that I can find at MyCutSearch.Com It was SO easy to find "fish" and see what cartridges that I own have them... then I searched "water" and found the perfect waves. You must give this website a try!

The folds are small, and fold flat, so they don't interfere with mailing, too. Check out my personal blog for dimensions.

Good Morning! We are very excited to have Amy Sheffer of Pickled Paper Designs as our Guest HoneyBee this week!

Amy is a very talented crafter, and has served on several design teams, including Verve, Stampers Dream, and A Sketch For You to Try... as well as being a former Dirty Dozen Designer over at Splitcoast Stampers! Here are some questions we've asked Amy to help us get to know her even better!

Tell us about yourself:

I live with my husband and three children in Virginia on the far outskirts of Washington, DC. I've been dabbling in anything and everything artsy and crafty pretty much all my life, so when a friend introduced me to scrapbooking in 1997 and then rubber stamping in 2002, I was instantly hooked both times. I spent a few years stamping for classes, workshops, and sales as a Stampin' Up demonstrator, but it wasn't until I started my blog in the Fall of 2007 that I discovered the joy of stamping just for the pure fun of it. Stamping has been a big part of my daily life ever since. At the same time, I discovered that the online stamping community is much more fun to participate in than merely to stalk, and I'm truly grateful for the wonderful friends I've found through stamping. Along the way, I've been honored to serve on several design teams, including my two current teams, Stamper's Dream and Verve. Thank you, Honey Bees, for the opportunity to guest host at Betty Bee's Buzz!

How did you get started in paper crafting?

I got hooked on scrapbooking back in the late '90s when I saw a friend's scrapbook. I'd never seen anything like it and as a crafty type, I was hooked immediately. A few years later, that same friend came running into a Little Gym class that our boys were taking, wildly waving a card she had made the night before at a Stampin' Up party. It was love at first sight. When she had a workshop a few weeks later, I ordered my first of many, many stamping supplies and haven't stopped since {grin}!

Tell us about your crafting space...

I am blessed to have a dedicated craft room tucked into a corner of my basement. Large windows and French doors to the outside let in a lot of light, and the half wall between the craft room and the rest of the basement lets me see the television and keep an eye on my kids while they play. I tend to be a messy crafter and love finding inspiration and odd combinations out of whatever scraps and cast-offs are lying around. That said, every few days, when the clutter becomes stifling, I have to tidy up and start all over again.

Where do you look for inspiration when your mojo is missing?

Surfing papercrafting blogs and thumbing through papercrafting magazines and idea books sometimes helps, as does simply looking through my product stash. But what usually works best for me is to seek out inspiration elsewhere -- clothing, home decor, gardening, even cookbooks. I think it's also good sometimes to walk away altogether for a while, take a break, and do something else I love -- go on a hike, visit an antique store, take in a concert, read a book, play the piano. Anything to fill up on the beauty that surrounds us! I can then return to papercrafting refreshed, energized, and ready to create.

If you could give one or two crafting tips, what would they be?

1. Try new things.
I think it's important to keep growing as artists/crafters, and one of the best ways is to try new things. Challenges are great for that, as they give you a starting point for something you might not have done on your own. Plus they're just plain fun! Classes at your local craft store could be good, too. I'm a pretty traditional stamper, not a technique stamper at all, so for artistic growth, I took a super fun, Claudine Hellmuth mixed media class a while back and had a blast learning new things and getting messy. To this day, I've yet to use a single technique in my card-making (shame!), but I left class that day feeling like an artist and couldn't wait to get home to create within my own style. Attitude is everything! Feel like an artist-->create like an artist!

2. Don't compare yourself to others and/or judge yourself through the eyes of others. This is such a trouble spot with me, and I know it is with many other papercrafters, too! Comparing your work to someone else's will only end up robbing you of the joy this hobby brings. As long as YOU'RE happy with your work, then "The End." Don't re-evaluate based on how many or few comments your blog post or gallery upload received. Now if I could do as I say! :)

Here is Amy's challenge for this week!

With the recent Royal Wedding festivities still fresh on my mind and the upcoming "wedding season" approaching, I've come up with a wedding-inspired challenge this week. While you don't necessarily have to make something for a wedding, your card or project does have to include "Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, and Something Blue." For "old," use an older product or trend, make something look old with distressing techniques, refurbish an outdated home decor item, etc. "New" is easy ... a new or trendy product, theme, or technique. For "borrowed," borrow a friend's tool, borrow another papercrafter's design (aka CASE), or borrow something from another craft, i.e., incorporate quilting or jewelry or fabric into your project. Mix a little blue in there somewhere and you're good to go! When you post your project, be sure to let us (and others) know what about your project is old, new, borrowed, and blue (although that last one will probably be a little obvious {grin}).
For my challenge sample, I've used the wedding theme for a non-wedding card. My new ingredient is the balloon paper from My Mind's Eye's new Lime Twist "Out of the Blue" collection. The "something old" is the sentiment stamp, which is from a May 2009 Verve stamp set called Dare to Be You. I normally love to add layers and embellishments, sometimes to the point of excess, so today I've borrowed the clean-and-simple style that I admire so much! And last ... blue skies, baby! This is going to our neighbor's daughter, who somehow just graduated from college, despite the fact that just yesterday she was a mere thirteen years old and earning her Red Cross babysitting certification. Miraculous, I tell ya!

Buzz, Brag and BEE Happy - Friday May 13, 2011

OOOOOOOOOO Friday the 13th! Good thing I'm not superstitious! This Friday I would like to say thank you to all who have been sending positive thoughts and praying for me. Keep up the good work!!!The doctor was right! This first week has been ROUGH!!! Wednesday was my first postop visit a 1 1/2hr drive one way from my house (OUCH). Doctor is pleased with my progress so far. No infection! Dr pulled one of the four drains he put in after surgery. Don, my DH, said it was 8 inches long... it felt like 8 feet with treble hooks along the way! 1 down 3 to go! Doctor did say I can increase my activity a little and can try the stairs.... so hopefully tomorrow I can get up to my craft room and do some creating!!!

Happy Friday! This is HoneyBee June Houck reporting my brag for the week…

I had a blast participating in National Scrapbook Day (NSD) on May 7th and Robyn of My Pink Stamper had twelve fun challenges and giveaways. She randomly drew winners, but somehow she forgot to draw my name :) I managed all twelve challenges in one day! I am confident that I have never made that many unique projects in a week, much less in a single day. I used Echo Park papers on three of my projects. Echo Park was also looking for crafters participating in NSD using Echo Park products. Echo Park chose 9 people to win a paper collection of their choice, and I was one crafter that was chosen! I asked for, "Life is Good." I can't wait to play with my newest papers!

Honeybee showcase ~ Altered Photographs

Welcome to the HoneyBee Showcase for this Wednesday! It's Altered Photograph week here in the hive, and we have some sweet projects to share with you! We started out on Monday with Rosemary's tutorial on how to use imaging software programs to alter your photos before you print them... Now we have some that are altered after the fact! Let your creativity be inspired to fly!!!

This is my take on the Monday Motivational tutorial at Betty Bee's Buzz by our Honeybee Rosemary on altered photograph. I used my parent's wedding picture to make a page for a 75th wedding anniversary album. I used my printer to print out 4 copies of the picture. My Copic markers colored Mom's bouquet. I then cut out each of 3 copies of the picture - one with Mom and Dad, one with Mom, one with the colored bouquet. I seperated each with a 3D dot. The sheet music was made from an online source and the embossed paper is from Tuesday Morning. The lace is from my stash.

I made a LO with my altered photo. (The altered photo is the top picture). My children love this little concrete bench under an elm tree in my parents' yard. We can rarely get a good picture of either of them, but on this particular day we took several photos and one was cute of J and another was good of K. DH & I combined the two photos! The tree and bench are not quite right if you look really, really close, but for the purposes of my LO, it worked perfectly :)

Look who's early this week me, me, me, me!.......love this technique, Rosemary! Thank you so much for the inspiration. I used my Copics on my picture and did they ever work like a dream! This is my grandson, Lucien, taken this past week-end at a Heritage Festival

I colored in the cute little bunny that he is so gently holding.......isn't that sweet? Here is the scrapbook page I did with this image.

Lucien saw so many cool things on Saturday that I am making him his own 8x8 album, (Thought I would use this page as the cover) so he can share it with his daddy, who was not able to go because he had to work.

I followed Rosemary's suggestion, but since I am still at the hospital with DH, I did a quick and easy version with a printout of a cropped photo of my granddaughter, and added wonderfully blended colors with Copic markers. There is a tiny bit of color to her lips, and I did her eyes blue, but it doesn't show up... anyone have an answer to this? I tried all of the colors in my arsenal, and went back and made the white reflections white again. Thanks to my sweet daughter for the beautiful velvet Mother's day card that serves as the mat for my card! (Not bad for creating under adverse circumstances!!)
